RosieQueen Latifah was conceived Dana Elaine Owens in Newark, New Jersey, on March 18, 1970. Latifah was the second daughter born to Lance and Rita Owens. She is popular for her social activistism, acting talents, and her ability to rhyme. A Muslim cousin has given Latifah the nickname "delicate and sensitive" when she was just eight years old. Latifah began singing with the Shiloh Baptist Choir in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Her first performance was when she sang "Home" as the character of Dorothy in a production of The Wizard of Oz at St. Anne's Parochial School. Latifah's mother was a catalyst.
