Julia Fiona Roberts is the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus, and Walter Grady Roberts. She was born on October 28, 1967 in Atlanta. Roberts belongs to the Robertses' fourth generation that live in the Atlanta area beginning in the family of her grand-father John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. Early in his life, her dad became fascinated by theatre. When he was a college student studying at Emory University from 1952 to 1954, he participated in numerous productions. He joined the Air Force in 1953 and, while stationed in Biloxi Mississippi, he was a part of the military's production, which featured Betty Lou Bredemus who was also in the air force. In 1955, the couple married and their son Eric Anthony was born. Walter attended Tulane University at New Orleans In 1957, the city of Louisiana where the couple had left the Air Force of the United States. In 1960, the family relocated from Louisiana to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working with Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In 1964 Walter as well as Betty Lou began production on the local Saturday morning children's television show called Bum Bum and His Buddies that they funded themselves. They established an Actors and Writers Workshop in that same year. It ran for about six years. In 1965, they welcomed two more children into their lives: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
