Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Roberts is part of four generations of the Robertses who reside in the Atlanta area, starting by her grandfather John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. The Robertses' father was interested in theater from a young stage. As a college students at Emory University from 1952 to 1954, he participated in many performances. When he joined the Air Force In 1953, he starred in an air force production in Biloxi with Betty Lou Bredemus. The two married in 1955 and their first child Eric Anthony was born in 1956. In 1957 the couple left the military and Walter enrolled at Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. The family relocated in 1960 from Louisiana to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working at Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter as well as Betty Lou began producing a television show for children in Decatur, Georgia called Bum Bum and His Buddies. They funded the show themselves. In 1964, Walter and Betty Lou established the Actors and Writers Workshop. It lasted for six years. They were joined by Lelisa Billingsley (also known as Lisa) and Julia (also also known as Julie) during this period.
